Our Story

Tarago Preschool started life as a playgroup in May 1972, meeting each week in the Country Women's Association rooms. The playgroup grew and grew and in August 1975 the Tarago Preschool Committee formed to plan, manage and raise funds for a new, dedicated preschool.

Tarago Preschool formally opened its doors to students in April 1976. As demand increased a new building was erected in 1983, which has had many extensions and improvements over the years to both the internal fixtures and playground. This has been due to intensive fundraising as well as community support from local businesses and government.

Tarago Preschool's history is steeped in community involvement. Our roots as a humble playgroup in 1972 have grown into a thriving preschool, thanks to the tireless efforts of the Tarago Preschool Committee, local businesses, government and the wider community. Our history is a testament to the community’s dedication towards forging a brighter future for our children.

Celebrating 50 years

In 2025, Tarago Preschool proudly celebrated 50 years of being part of the Tarago community.

To mark this incredible milestone, we opened our preschool to the community for a special celebration filled with memories, stories and familiar faces. We displayed photographs and memorabilia from across our 50-year history, giving everyone the opportunity to look back at the many children, families, educators and community members who have been part of our journey.

We were delighted to welcome past students, former educators and members of our community, some travelling back to Tarago to celebrate this special occasion with us.

It was a beautiful day filled with wonderful stories, heartfelt speeches, plenty of memories and, of course, cake!

Most importantly, it was a chance to celebrate the incredible community that has supported Tarago Preschool for five decades and to look forward to the next chapter of our story.
